continental drift theory

It is inevitable. Put in a room half cup of caucasians, a third of asians and a good dose of ethnic groups inbetween, throw in a good measure of education and shake well.

Somehow you'll end up with two layers. One of the West and the other of the East. It's natural to want to be on the same side as what is familiar.

While the class is bonding relatively well for a first week, it's hard not to see that divide. The angmohs are in their own world talking about football, news and sports etc. The Asians are gathered in chatty banter about being in a foreign land, or trying to identify who is who in class.

Then you get a few who cross the divide. I'm in awe, ye brave ones!

And you appreciate those who do.

And you tell yourself that you will do the same.
