... this mundane and dull period of my life where everything is now dependent on if I get a job, or not. Okok, "or not" and "if" are not options, and it will happen. It's just WHEN?!
That's the big gazillion dollar question - WHEN WILL I GET A JOB? I am really sick of this waiting for a ripe moment. First when I came home in September, I was kinda down and while sending out at least 50 or so resumes in the few 6-8 weeks that I was job hunting, nothing came through. Well 2 opportunities did, but they weren't exactly what I was hoping for. Now I have something in the pipeline, actually, the ONLY thing in the pipeline and think I am: 1. counting me chicks before they hatch and 2. laying all my lays in one basket. (hmm the chicken and egg analogies are all pure coincidences) Second thing is, waiting for this freaking year end period of Yuletide cheer and Feliz Año Nuevo to end. This is the dreaded period for the unemployed cos everyone is holding back from quitting the jobs that they drag their feet to, and everyone is just in a holiday mood to even think about recruitment.
Going back to the UK for graduation was a good move, mostly good I think. I had a proper chance to say goodbye. I had to mentally say goodbye to the place that I though I might possibly spend another 2-3 years there. I really like the lifestyle. I like that people are well-mannered. Weather is always chilly. Supermarkets are fantastic. And a sense of freedom - liberation that I am on my own, and I can do things at my own time.
My arrival at Heathrow and going into Cafe Nero for a quick cuppa made me feel like I never left the UK. And now that I am back, I feel like I never left Singapore.
I said bye to S, in person. He even admitted that he was an ass to me (those weren't his exact words but now that he is an ex-, who cares?) It was an amicable, albeit sad, farewell. Yes we've had many good times together, but at the end of the day, we are really two very different people, who want very different things in our lives right now. But what he made me realise was that I do want someone. Before him I has quite happy on my own, minding my own business, happy to just hang out with family and friends. Now I realise that I do perhaps want someone i can really share my life with, and who wants me to share his life with him.
Though, a more pressing and "keeps me awake at night" thought is that after 1.5 years, I really need to work. Going back, and seeing that many of my friends were either employed or got jobs really scared the shit out of me.
Where's the big "FAST FORWARD" button on me life that gets to the good part? I know that panicking doesn't really help with anything. It only exacerbates the big "Where's the big fast forward button"deep, sinking feeling. The days are just crawling. I just want to be gainfully employed! - Geez, never thought I'll say that!
*Follow-up on Spain and UK graduation in posts to come. I just need to rant a bit about my perfect life.

days two & three - Barcelona
Unbelievable. I woke up and my legs were cramping up like crazy. My calves hurt like hell and thighs too. And when I walk down stairs, my god, the pain is just unbelievable. Day three was a bit of a haze. I didn´t quite plan my route but had a general idea that I wanted to do Barri Gotic... and later, when I decided I had enough of Gothic buildings, decided to head for the neighbouring district of La Ribera.
The day started off at Starbucks. I ordered a latte only to get a look of confusion. Obviously when it says latte on the board, people still order by its Spanish term "cafe con leche" or coffee with milk. To be fair, not all Starbucks required the cafe con leche phrase. Anyway after that I headed for El Cangar near the Barcelona Cathedral. It was built in gothic style. And my word, it was simply impressive. As you know how gothic buildings are - tall, has a lot of columns, and all things made to make you feel small. And it did. I sat on the pews(?) what are those called again? Where the congregation sits??
Anyway after that I decided to do La Ribera, and according the guide book another church visit was in order. So I decided to just walk past and walked around aimlessly around Passeig El Born(the hip district with many bars and shops). But since I wasn´t quite in the mood to shop, nor was I hungry, decided to sit somewhere to get my bearings right. Then an old man came up to me and blabbered in Spanish or Catalun, don´t know which, cos I really have no idea what he was saying. Only like 30 seconds later, I realised the uncle was asking me if he could give me a kiss on the cheek!
*faint* how come the cute man I fancied on La Rambla never ask me if I wanted a kiss? And old uncles come up to me like that? And he wasn´t the first to throw me looks all day, the rest of the day old uncles were looking at me. I had to check my fly a few times thinking that they were staring at me cos my fly was undone. *Sigh* story of my life. Only attract old men.
Anyway after a few more rounds around the small tiny alleys, I decided maybe I should go to Museo Picasso. Picasso spent quite a fair bit of his time in Barcelona throughout his life. I never thought much of Picasso, since I didn´t quite like cubism. But from the trip to the Museum, realised that he could do fantastic traditional art too. And started out with classical training, only to move on to start cubism, and even revoluntionised ceramics. That wasn´t the only thing about Picasso, he was quite the casanova! Had so many women. Sigh, once again why is it so easy for men and so hard for women?
After that I decided to have lunch, had a fantastic lunch with tortilla - which I shall attempt to make when I get home. Then it was walking through Barri Gotic to La Rambla and I sat at Starbucks (my 2nd for the day) and rested for like close to 1 1/2 hours cos my feet and legs were hurting so much.
After that I decided to shop. Went to Zara, Mango, some other shops which I didn´t quite know the names. And remembered I had to make a trip to Sephora, which I have heard so much about but never been. And it was fantastic! If you can imagine a whole shop of makeup of all kinds. They even have laduree lip balm and dusting powder!
Then it was a slow walk back to the hotel. The room was much better last nite no more strange smells and no smoke smell. I was so knackered I actually slept in the clothes that I wore out all day and showered only this morning!!!! YIKES!
Tomorrow is my last day in Barcelona. Sigh, wished someone had come with me, so that we could have eaten our way through Barcelona through plates of tapas and I haven´t even tried cava!

day one - barcelona
It was a rather cold and wet weekend in the UK. Strong winds, heck I was queuing up for the fantastic 418 when I saw some white stuff pelting on the coat of this lady before me, small pieces of ice - hail!
Anyway it was cold, wet and to be honest, when Monday came, I was almost glad I was getting out of the UK. The flight to Barcelona was easy enough. But the thing was, I wasn´t mentally prepared for Barcelona. (Simi mentally prepared, holiday, holiday lah... I can hear some people´s thoughts as I type). Well, seeing that I am an ENTJ (MBTI). I kinda need everything planned down to almost the dot before I feel secure and safe to venture into the big bad world. But this trip, I wasn´t very enthusiastic at the start so there were so many things I didn´t even prepare for this trip, not even reading about what´s there to see at Barcelona. Not till I was on board EZY6025 TO Barcelona.
By the time I got to Barcelona, I had a bit of a shock. Firstly, no one really spoke English. So I had to recall my very bad Spanish, from my 3 months of Spanish lessons some 5 years ago.* Upon reaching city centre, I somehow instinctively headed for the shopping street. hahahhaha
Anyway I am staying at Hostal Girona, this rather dodgey looking old converted hotel. The owner put me in this room that looked like some poor artiste had stayed in and decided it was too shabby even for him to stay in it. And yours truely stayed in it.
Anyway the room had a shower, but no toilet. I mean, in what parallel universe is Barcelona in? No toilet but has a shower? The room gave me the creeps. Half the night I was up trying to cover my ears with my arms, and of cos my arms were numbed halfway. So I was up half the night, and watched TV. And came onto some cheesy porn channel. Yup, you heard it, porn. I mean all other channels were in Spanish, so it made no difference what channel I watched.
But what was hilarious was that there was a scene with a car chase, and this lady came out of the car in underwear and a satin robe. God knows why she was in her undies. She, apparently, went to her friend´s house. And her friend also came out in her undies and another silky robe. So anyway this friend of hers came out with a bat, and waited for the chaser (is that the right word?) And he (had to be a guy, right?) and she seduced him, then used the bat to hit him.
Just when I was wondering where was the porn in this, she went into the house where the first lady was resting, and I think there was some hot and happening after that. It HAD to be 2 women together. Obviously this porn is for men. I don´t understand the fascination with women together sex for men. Anyway I got bored, and it even put me to sleep. hahhaha
Anyway day one of Barcelona was just some getting my directions right. Day Two was when I set off to visit Temple of La Sagrada Familia by Antoni Gaudi. You know that massive church with huge towers (tallest one to be 173m) that´s still under construction? I was thinking who the hell is this Gaudi guy, and after looking at it I am now a Gaudi convert. He had a unique way of transposing designs from nature onto buildings and his design ideas were so innovative for his time, and even now.
I took the lift up and had to be at least 100m from ground. Only to find after going down halfway the tower and back up to the lift top, that the man in the lift wouldn´t take us down in the lift. I had already done at least 100 steps of each 30cm in height. So apparently going down was something like 300 steps, seemed like 3,000 to me. By the end of it my legs were wobbly.
And my word, they hurt like hell today. My legs and my flat feet.
Anyway I was thoroughly impressed by Gaudi´s works and decided to visit another building he had done - La Pedrera. This supposed residential area that looked like it was carved out of a cave. Gaudi´s designs not only affected the exterior, it also made effective use of internal space, ergonomics and also made effective use of natural light. The house inside was so bright and cheery.
Then I walked down Passeig de Gracia which was supposedly the Orchard Road and ended up at Plaça Catalunya where all things happened. Of cos by then my feet were hurting, so I went back to my Hostal to ask for a change of room. The second room was better, but it stank of smoke. And I can´t open the windows. So my strategy was to go out for longer hours (i.e. blogging at an internet cafe) and then go home later.
* First proper sentence of Spanish that I muttered was ¿Donde esta Casa Mila? Which translates into Where is Casa Mila? Had to blog that cos the spanish keyboard has these funny keys like the upside down question mark¿ and ç and ñ and º and ª. hahhaha :)
K, 10 minutes left, I should go, feet hurting. More of days 2 and 3 later!

plantano is banana
DOH! how did I know that? Was famished yesterday and decided to get a dunkin donut and thought - hmmmm plantano, planta is ground level so plantano should be PEANUT butter, right? Of cos not, it is BANANA FLAVOURED!!!
Can die. I hate bananas.
So yes, you learn really fast. It´s such a shock to find that so many people don´t know English here, and they just speak Spanish or Catalun to you. Which is fine, but I have NO idea what it means. kekekekek
But this place is really nice, the weather is lovely, compared to the gales and hail that I got in Bath over the weekend. It´s actually warm. And my long coat is a bit too warm sometimes. I´ve some video of La Pedredra and Sangrada Familia, both masterpieces by Gaudi! I am a convert! His work is just amazing.
Was initially dreading this trip, but now that I am here, I am quite enjoying myself. Pix and all to come later. I should really get started. Today is Barri Gotic and Mercat de la something, cannot remember.

oh Bath, I've missed you
It's been a long ride here. And while the clatter, noise, heat, humidity and bad English are still freshly imprinted at the back of my mind, I just cannot believe that I am back here, in Bath.
The first sight at Heathrow, that reminded me of UK was Cafe Nero. It's like I never left.
So here I am. Back in Bath. The air is crisp and cold, blustery wind and the Bath Christmas Market has just opened. Somehow it feels more Christmasy here, with the cold and lights all up. Despite our tropical Christmas light show in Orchard Road, it is not the same.
But if feels different though, cos somehow friends are no longer around and Bath, while it holds its attraction still, is a different place now.
And of cos it gets dark at 4pm. The weather looks gorgeous and I shld really go. It's 11.25

papa don't preach
Just had a conversation with a long-time friend, and I guess I am quite easily irritated and ultra sensitive these days. But I just feel that sometimes advice is given to me when I am not exactly asking for them. Of cos advice is given with good intention, but sometimes I feel that while she is entitled to her own opinion, when I air mine, I am just unreasonable. Or that my thoughts are just random and just completely out of whack.
Can help think that if I were to talk about Polly to this friend, I'll get a whole long list of eyes rolling, comments of "Oh, you shouldn't think this way etc etc" or "You are just ridiculous" and then all talks about reconciliation - which to be honest, I don't really care to do with Polly at this point in my life.
I don't know, but maybe not everyone thinks alike? While you're entitled to your opinion, so am I. Neither is right. Nor is everyone born positive - me as living proof. This whole issue just brings to mind about the book I was reading about on being assertive - everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Recently been very down with job situation. I know it's not personal, but I just can't help feel that my lucky break is not ever going to come. (Contrary to earlier post) Sure it's end of the year and people are holding onto their jobs and not leaving. But when the new year comes and I still don't get that call for interviews, what's my excuse then?
The only positive thing now is that I am spending so much time at home with the rascals. Today while nursing a really bad headache, I was taking a nap when B1 was about to go home, he came to me and gave me a kiss. Isn't he the angel?
So here they are - my favourites at their best.

Seriously, why do so many people suck at their jobs...
...and here I am, I cant find one that pays me a decent wage. Since my pay has been so badly suppressed by the last co. I worked for, I can't asked for much, and I know that my asking, isn't unreasonable for someone with my experience. Since job searching and just listening to others, I can tell you, there are so many people who don't know how to do their jobs. Within seconds, I can easily summarised what they are doing wrong and just tell them to improve!
Maybe I suck at interviews. Or it's just my darn arse luck with jobsearching. (very high probability, that one, the arse luck I mean)
Came across this on the jobsdb.com website. By this guy called David Freeman. Have edited some rather obvious points. Here goes:

oi, you deaf har?
The NEL is just fantastic. It takes me 20 minutes to get from Hougang to Dhoby Ghaut. In earlier days, it took me about 1 over hour to get to Orchard road. And now, half that time. But of course, this is public transport, so there is no avoiding all the weird people you have to put up with.
For starters, the deaf. Those who plug into their iPods at 8am in the morning, blasting music of questionable taste to poor souls who don't have their ears plugged. These iPoders, I'm sure, have those super-duper ambient-sound cancelling-whachamacallit earphones. But it cancels out surrounding noise cos it probably DEAFENS you and those around you. I mean if I were SMRT, I would be grateful - commuters who voluntarily provide piped-in music.
Anyway...
...was coming home from Dhoby Ghaut today and the nerve of this young Chinese man. I was queued up at the side to the doors of the train, second in line to enter the train (if commuters had any decency or idea of what it means to queue). He tried his luck to squeeze pass me. Of cos I just stood my stance and glared at him. He was eyeing the few empty seats on the train. But you know what, buddy, so was I - why the hell do you think I'm queued up second in line?!
Anyway, I believe I have right of a seat - firstly I was in front in the queue. Secondly, I am a woman. I mean, which decent man tries to push his way pass you to get a seat?! Only in Singapore. He managed to get a seat next to me, cos another weirdo decided his bag of plastic goods perhaps didn't need to occupy ONE seat and put his bag away. Anyway once the bugger took his seat, he took out his PSP and played on it without lowering the volume on his handheld. Disgusted, I made an obvious turn of my head to stare at the game he was playing. It was a lame ah beng "follow the rhythm" game - you know the sort you play at arcade games shop where you drum as the notes stream pass you on the screen??
Then there was this woman, whom I think is not local, who was trying to put together a broken string of "pearl" necklace. On a train. Is that the most appropriate place to do something like that? Of cos I was thinking, "What if it falls on the floor?" And it did. A few stray pearls rolled to the opposite site. This rather daft woman then probably realised it's not the best place to look a broken string of pearls. Best part was - the pearls must be fake lor. Cos she just sat there, peering to the other side to see if anyone would pick up the rolled-over-the-other-side-of-the-train pearl. If they were real, she would have STOOD up and searched for them. But noooooo, she just let the men on the other side search for it. Don't you think that's such weird behaviour? I would stand up and start searching for my stuff on the train and not sit and peer. That's just plain weird.
Oh. And has anyone actually watched those "what to do if there was a bomb on our trains" clips on the trains? It calls for A.L.E.R.T.:
A - Assist by gathering your belongings
L - (shit cannot remember what L stands for) But I think it is for Listen
E - Evaluate if an object is suspicious
R - Report the suspicious object
T - Dammit! I gotta stop laughing at the clip cos I cannot remember what T stands for! What if there was a real suspicious object on the train?! I might be blasted to smeetherings! But I would say TEXT all your friends about it!
Seriously, "Evaluate if an object is suspicious". Are they for real? That shouldn't even be part of the procedure! How's the public to know what is suspicious? As an SOP check ALL train carriages! How can you depend on daft and rude ah bengs and pearl stringing ah lians to even EVALUATE if something is suspicious?
*ooo don't you just miss Singa The Courtesy Lion? I remember I used to do a damn good copy of Singa the Courtesy Lion as part of my art and craft class, and also for some strange reason I used to like drawing him. And I remember had a sleeveless tee with him silkscreened and he was popped up on the tee. I say, bring the Singa back!

i am a superhero
Your results:
You are Supergirl (woohoo!)
Lean, muscular and feminine.
Honest and a defender of the innocent.

Click here to take the "Which Superhero am I?" quiz...
This is not bad, considering I "fail" at most "Which goody-two-shoe hero are you" quiz. The last time I tried the Harry Potter one I was in Slytherin. Hahahah, Not bad lah, I think Gryfindor is a bit too good and saintly for my character. Slytherin is fine by me. :P Now to get that superbabe body. damn.

the best things in life are (almost) free
I'm now at the national library doing some research work for a friend. And the sucker that I am, I've been bought over by the magnifique facade of the new building. It has glass exterior and is 14 storeys tall. So going up the glass elevator gives you funny ticklish feeling when you go zooming up or down it.
It's just so quiet, full of books and research material and you can bring in your laptop do research or even take a nap* here. All for free.
heheheh.
The other good thing is my vodafone mobile broadband modem from M1. (Think starhub has it too). But now, yours truly can surf wirelessly anywhere in Singapore. Woohoo!
*Considering the hammering and construction work that is going on at my house now, it's quite a possibility that I spend time here zzz. kekekekeke

one year & a few months later ... karma strikes
I've had the best news I've heard in months.
THE CUNTS HAVE BEEN DEMOTED!
The big cunt has be relegated to supposed Chief Operating Officer, handling marketing, events and receptionist.
The small cunt is now back to her OLD role - senior events manager, basically selling Michael Lee's programmes & FRS repeats, which, if the customers had any sense would realise by now that they suck!
Ahhh best news in months. Just when I was feeling so low and down about things, about myself. And wondering if I'll ever find a job that can pay and really challenge me the way I found excitement and motivation while doing my MBA.*
Everyone's telling me looking for a job takes time. I sure hope something comes my way. I feel rotten being trodden by others and ripped off by everyone else.
*I'm officially a MBA holder! :) Just got news that I passed all my modules 2 days back! :) *pat on back* ooooo I so miss England!

it ain't london marathon
One thing coming back, I noticed that there are like a million of these sponsored marathons. And the thing is quite a number of my friends are participating in them.
WHY?!
I'll probably be the first person to die of a heatstroke even before I start at any one of these. When I went to the Bath Marathon last year, (or was it earlier this year) it was in the middle of winter. My friends who did the half marathon were in their shorts and tee. So who in their right minds would do the Singapore marathons? It's like a gazillion degrees by 7am and humidity of 2000%. Which means if you really wanted to run, you'll have to get up like 4am before you bake to death.
And since Singapore has quite a number of young punks who are always up for doing stuff to be "cool" you have 100000000 people at these events. I mean come on, as it is, I am claustrophobic. Don't need to willingly subject myself to crowds unnecessarily to prove any point.
A friend of mine asked me to go along, and I had to use my "dodgy excuse" that my foot is falling apart and might do the special marathons - in a wheelchair perhaps. So I may go support those who go. But god, it's getting up at 7am,without a car! I need a job and soon!

damn if you do
I met up with a headhunter today. And boy oh boy, it just sealed my lack of faith in this industry. While talking to me to find out what are the other areas that I am interested in exploring in my career, this consultant whom I shall call Ed, tried to put my experience and the very expensive education I've just received, down.
While looking at my past years experience, Ed went,"Well, your experience is relevant in blah area. But you've been out of the job market for a year so it might be hard."
If my eyes rolled, I couldn't care less. Out of the job market for year? Excuse me, it's not like I was sitting on my ass for a year not doing anything. You young punk who do not know the value of an MBA, please, just go educate yourself on what it really takes to be recruiter before you do recruitment for professionals. Especially for mid- to senior levels. Strike one.
Ed then went on to talk about my interest in the IT industry. And then tried to put me down again by saying that I do not have the knowledge in hardware. IT is not all about hardware, and in fact he didn't even ask me which areas of IT I was interested in. He was supposed expert in the IT industry. Strike two.
I then asked about work opportunities abroad. Ed asked,"Why do you want to go west when everyone is coming to the east?"If as a recruiter he cannot understand such basics of why people want international experience, I honestly think the whole recruitment industry should be on the brink of destruction.
Strike three.
So this has completely changed my job search strategy. Do more research on my own, depend less on these recruiters who don't know their stuff.
It's like this stupid encounter has deepen the dent in my dreaded job search experience. Just like what my friend said it's damn if you do and damn if you don't. When you have a certification such as an MBA, some people don't value it. And when you don't, hiring companies prefer it.
WTF?

hot, noisy, hot, noisy & somewhat lost
Today marks the second week I've been home. Like I said I don't feel like I went away at all. Nina wrote me an email and said the same.
The only reprieve - it rained today. HUGE showers. And it feels really good.
They've started renovating the common areas around my block and building a lift shaft so that each unit within the block gets a lift landing to their floor. Currently the whole block shares 2 lifts and they only stop on the 1st, 5th, 9th and 12th floors. So this whole upgrading thing is good. But OMG the amount of drilling and jackhammering! Plus the 200% humidity and heat, it is enough to drive anyone mad. I even raised my voice at the rascals on Friday.
I think it's time to start job searching, even if only for a temporary job. At least it gets me out of the heat and even a little away from the rascals. And I can shop without guilt.
Am feeling a little lost about where I'm supposed to go for a job. I'm just trying for everything that interests me, which can range from private banking to baking - go figure. Which of cos leaves me bit lost as to what I really want.
So I decided to go back to what I do best - shopping. Decided I needed an image overhaul. Went shopping for makeup, "innocently" asked for advice on how I should do my eye makeup, did my brows, checked out mixers (they are still on my list of to buys cous, kekeke), and then finally decided I needed a professional-smart hairdo, so I called my hairstylist for an appointment on Tuesday.
So now I feel a little better about myself since I've burnt a small hole in pocket. But somehow sense that something big is coming my way. I hope I am right.

where's the postbox
For the past 4 days, I have been searching for a postbox. And in my mind, I was thinking of a red pillar postbox, and been keeping my eyes open for that.
It just occurred to me this morning that the postboxes in Singapore are not pillar. They are boxy, rectangular and predominantly white. So of course I haven't posted my letter.
Not that it sucks to be back. I am enjoying my time with family, especially the rascals. But I am disgusted by some people's behaviour in Singapore. Last Thursday, my mom, helper and I took the train home. It was 6pm and the train was packed. No one gave up their seat for my mom. None of the youngster bothered. Some pretended to sleep. Others blatantly just refused to give up their seats. Till a 40+ lady got up and gave her seat to my mom. And sat back only after my mom alighted.
Shame on you Singaporeans. I am so disgusted by your behaviour.

closure
There was always the great big question when I decided to come back: What will happen between you and S?
I guess it was inevitable and we were both just in denial that it could work. Why can't it? After some 2 over years of long distance calls, my stint in the UK and the possibility of a life together from December? If it has worked so well in the past, when we feel so good together - why can't it work?
Today we decided to give our relationship a break. Pressured by a need to decide on the future of our relationship. S feeling pressured by the lack of attention he was devoting to me. Me, feeling the pressure of a futureless relationship, and his extreme introverted-ness. I am saddened by it all, of course. But at least there is closure.
The past few months have been really difficult, not knowing what might be the outcome of our relationship. Despite good chemistry between us, at times we were really distrustful of each other. How's a relationship to survive, particularly a long distance one, if there is no trust?
I am not hopeful that we will get back together. He is a man and this is our second break. I am happy for the memories that we've had. But I am sad that I will lose a close friend and that our relationship will never be as close as what it was.
Now I know what my options are and what I need to do next. It is not what I wanted, or planned, but I feel better, slightly, knowing what my future will be.

allergy
I think I am allergic to the country that I grew up in.
Okay I could be exaggerating. But how do you explain the constant sneezing since I touched down, especially on days when I'm not on antihistamines?
Maybe this is part of the psychological and delusion repatriation blues that I am experiencing. Symptoms include:

guess who's back
okok, so it's not much of a guess, since most people who actually read my blog already know that I am back.
The past few weeks after I left Bath were an absolute nightmare. But I kinda left the place with a strong feeling that I will be back there. Not sure if I will be working or bumming there (though I think bumming may not be an option there).
But I did a trip back from Surrey to Bath/Bristol. Drove 3 hours last Thursday to say bye to S. It was nice to see him again and say bye. Though he said he was very upset that I was going. Hmmm. I then stayed in Bath till 9pm, before driving like a mad woman at 90miles/hr back to Reigate. Going through Heathrow was such a nightmare. First you had to have only one hand carry, second, you can't carry liquids of more then 100mL per type of liquid, and not more than 1 litre for ALL types of liquid. And checking in you need to take off your coat, put them in one tray, laptop in another and bag in third. And another more ludicrous procedure was taking off shoes for inspection. They should provide those guys at the shoe checking station with face masks, it stank! But it was just such a relieved to get on the plane and out of there. So it's probably good that it was so traumatic at Heathrow that I didn't really feel all that sad to leave.
Was almost surreal coming back. Like I never went away at all. S said that don't think it that way, it's part of who I am. But seriously, it does feel like it was all a dream. And it's worst when you wake at 3am at nite, when your body thinks it's 8pm in the evening. You start dreaming that you were back in the UK. Or think that "hmmm at this time I should be doing this, or that, or chatting..." I haven't acclimatised to the time and weather yet. I sleep at 6am and wake close to 12pm.
There was a really heavy thunderstorm last nite. Honest-to-goodness, car alarm set-off kind of loud thunder and lightning and rain pouring down from the heavens like it has never rained before. And then it hit me - I'm home. I've missed hearing loud thunder crashing and rain pounding on the grounds. Then I snuggled deeper under my quilt and fell back to sleep.

beginnings and ends
Everything seems strangely calm and quiet in my little room. As if everyone has moved out and I am the only person in the accommodation.
This is officially the last night in Bath, in my little room, which I have occupied for 1 year. It's empty now. Stripped of all my files, plant, shoes, accessories. It feels familiar and yet strange. I can't believe that I will never be here again after tonight. This safe little sanctuary of a room.
The city of Bath seems to have taken on a quiet calm as well, as if it was also sad to see us go. I will truly, truly miss this city. It's small, cosy feel. It's so small that a small street flood makes it to front page of the city papers. The streets have been here for years, and reading them in Jane Austen's Northangar Abbey gives you a thrill just knowing that people hundreds of years ago walked on Great Pulteney Street, visited peers on Milsom Street, went up to Claverton Down.
I took my huge Vauxhall Vectra out for a drive today, just going around Combe Down and Claverton Down, just to remind myself how lovely the countryside is, and how life back home will never be like that.
It's time to let go of those feelings now and look forward to a new beginning.

done and dusted
Today!!! Well actually it was YESTERDAY!!!! I am finally done with my studies. It's been such an intensive year.
Spent all of last night packing all my belongings into 3 boxes. Amazingly they fit. Then at 3am, decided to have a beer with gayboy. Now nursing a headache.
All my files are gone. Clothes cupboard is empty. Toilet is all empty of its towels and stuff. I still have a stack of books, which I am still quite undecided if I should bring them along. And last nite S came over to kinda say good bye. It was all so sad. I left him the clothes dryer, some towels and my lucky bamboo plant - which are our combined fixed asset.
Lots of mixed feelings. Want to go out and take a walk in Bath, but stupid headache wont go away. And of all days it has to be cloudy and gloomy on the one day that I have absolutely nothing to do. Well I do have things to do - clear my kitchen and more packing. Shall do that now.

porter, there is a mouse in my living room
I have been with my darlings the past few days. They are such angels. B2 is so different from when I left her for the UK last year. She is super chatty and boy oh boy, does that girl have a mind of her own.
I made my sister come out with them to the hotel reception. I wanted to see if either of them recognised me if I pretended to be a passerby at the recept. And they just walked past me. I had pretend to clear my throat. B1 turned around saw me and then said, "Yee yee." It was loads of hugs and kisses.
But it's just so tiring to babysit. I have been with them since yesterday, but it seems like I've been with them for weeks. And somehow, it kinda reminds me that I don't want kids. As much as I adore them, they take up so much energy. It just reminded me that I don't want kids! Ever...
B1 is an angel though. Yesterday while we were at Cafe Uno, he cut a small piece of his fish, loaded it with lemon juice, and told me to take it cos he loves to eat fish and chips that way. And he made sure that I ate it.
Last nite, they were jetlagged, and I was sleeping with them. They woke at 5am, and I got up to pat them to sleep. B1 went,"Thanks yee yee."
awww isn't he a sweetheart?
Anyway, I told my sister I would baby sit the rascals Sunday evening. The kids were still a bit jetlagged and tired so I had such a hard time trying to keep them up and awake. B2 was grouchy and fell asleep on the couch while watching her boring Barbie - Fairytopia DVD that comes with her new Barbie doll. So I carried her to bed, and she slept with her bum up in the air, like B1. B1 in the meanwhile was playing computer games to keep awake and I watched TV. When I got up to get B1 to go zzz, I saw a mouse run from the edge of the couch on which I was sitting on towards the kitchen area.
Naturally I shrieked. And ran to B1, shut the door and prayed that the freaking mouse would not come through.
Somerset Bayswater London - the supposed atas range of the Somerset serviced apartments. That was not all. Earlier on in the day, my sister found a piece of dried up shit under her bed. And she had been complaining that the room smelled of shit (B2 was first suspect). But the dried up shit cleared B2 of all suspicion.
Anyway my sis and her husband returned from their night out, very disgusted with the people. Anyway my bro-in-law searched the living room and found mice droppings behind the couch. And in the bedrooms. In the room where the rascals and I were sleeping, there was a bottle of milk that possibly has been there for days, or weeks and more mice droppings.
It's really not worth the money at all. Plus the walls are paper thin, and when people slam the door, you can hear it. And the fire alarm went off in the middle of the a few times. I suspect its work of drunkard.
So there you go - Somerset Bayswater London, they should pay you to stay there.

a season for goodbyes
7 September 2007. The date that all of us have been pinning for. The submission date for the class of 2007, Bath MBA soon-to-be graduates were hoping for. And yet not.
The day that this day comes, means goodbye. For some of us, we probably may not see them ever again. We started drinks at 12, and ended at 12. :) And I spent 3 hours lying on the grass by the lake in school. Then off to Java, and then All-Bar-One, again.
I will miss Bath. And I will miss my time here in school. But it's not just the place that creates the memories, it's the people. Friends whom you meet everyday. It was just like a typical post lecture Friday, all sunny, we were out at Parade Bar drinking. Then some people had to go home. Hugs and kisses were exchanged. And I didn't realise till about 2 hours ago that I may not see some of them in a long time, or even forever.
For some, I wished that I had spent more time getting to know them. For many I wished I had more time to spend with them. And for the class, I just wished that it all didn't have to end with a goodbye.
It brings me closer to go home. The reality of it hit me when I had to pick up my shipping boxes this morning. That I may not come back here forever. It is going to be the same life in Singapore that I had a year back.
My darlings are in the UK as I type, a part of me feels excited to see them, and yet, I haven't packed. And feel no desire to pack. Cos facing them means another tick in my checklist of activities that I have to do before I go home.
S and I are in a really good place now. I think despite his macho, bachelor, commitment-pobia, we really, really get on with each other. I think it is a waste to just throw it away, pending on a job. And yet the reality of the situation is, I cannot afford not start working. I've had the privilege of studying in a foreign land. Something that I never thought I would do or think I'll ever have such an opportunity to do it. No commitments about home, parents or anything, not even money for a long time. And all that seems to crashing down towards the end. It is sad. I wish that I had some brains to be earning shitloads, to live the life that I like.
Friends whom you meet everyday. old memories
Just came across this picture that I took of B1 and mommy at Brighton. I like it. It's such a sweet picture.

defuzzed and scrubbed
Ahhhhh, just came out of the shower. And it feels good. The past two days were spent at S's place, and of course god knows where he put my deodorant. So I ended up using his. Well, it's between smelling like a good, clean smelling man, or me scent, au naturale. Between the two, I take smelling like a man.
So the past few days I have been so frenzied about work that I have clean forgotten to groom. But I've observed one or two things on stress on humans... some more known than others
Not to mention my brows and moustache!!!!
now, now, all's calm. Everything's in order now. :)

- Makes you lose your appetite. (I have NO cravings even though I am hungry. Very unusual)
- Pimples, pimples, pimples...
- Makes your hair grow.

when hell freezes over
I suppose that's my thought about my dissertation at the moment - if I finish it, will be when hell freezes over.
Wordcount - 11,300 words. Which is fine, considering I was panicking about data analysis right about last week at this time and was at 6,500 words. Driven by panic and fuelled by adrenaline, I started to pound furiously on keyboard only since Thursday or Friday.
As if my days of hell are not bad enough. I am now sick. It's just weird that with age, you know your body better. Well sorta. This afternoon, I was in one of the breakout rooms in 8W, and felt that my back was aching. Initially dismissed it, thinking it could be PMS. But then I felt I couldn't sit up straight for for even 30 minutes typing, or concentrate on just writing as I had been the past few days.
And when it came to dinner time, I was looking at the menu of Yummy House (some Chinese/Malaysian/Singaporean take-away/delivery place) I realised I wasn't hungry. Which still wasn't the problem...the problem was I wasn't craving for yummy food.(no pun intended) What I was craving for was a big bowl of milk with cocopops and oj - lots and lots of OJ. (That's not just yummy, it's luxurious decadency for someone with a metabolism like mine.)
Then I knew, I was officially sick. See how one year living in UK helps you save on doctor's fees? Hmmm though I wouldn't mind going to see my favourite Dr. Mark Bligh, to whom I have sworn my undying love.
Think the slight fever must be numbing some instinctive reaction to the panic I have been feeling. Though tummy is churning at the thought that I have done only about 1,000 words today, brain just doesn't want to do more work. I even went home early, went to the nearest grocery store bought milk, OJ and some cheese buns. yikes! Carbs!
Then went home and stuffed myself crazy, napped for 2 hours, popped all the pills I could find in my drawer and decided to call it a day.
And then of course, my eyes wouldn't shut as I lay on bed. Damn!!!!
Now craving for a pasty. Not just any old pasty, but the one from the shop near Starbucks. Anyway, I swore to my English kitchen mate that pasties are non-curry versions of a curry puff. And of course he insisted that it wasn't cause a pasty wouldn't have curry in it and it was predominantly beef with potatoes and pepper in it.
Details, details...
Still, I insist it's the angmo curry puff sans curry. :P
Such intellectual conversations I have in England.

fucking bored out of my mind
Oh my god. I've sat at this seat since 12pm this afternoon (it's now 814pm) and just typing away. I've been doing this since since all of last week, everyday. Yesterday (saturday) went to school worked from 2pm - 10pm
And I really cannot pause to take a break. I have such pressing deadlines. Today is the day I hit the 10,000 word mark. Oh joy!... another 10,000 to go!
Think I might just stop at 18,000 or something. Don't really have that much to say. Then again, I a bit chiong hey, maybe might just reach it.
Okay I shall start my things to do when I get back to Singapore.
Geez. No one has emailed, facebooked. And I am happy just to receive a mail from flickr.com to tell me that my Yahoo pictures have been migrated.

- Visit my favourite dentist
- Visit my hairstylist (shit cannot remember her name!)
- Play, play, play play, play with darlings
- Find a job (hmm that strangely should be on the top of the list)
- Get mommy to cook fan shu zhou for me.
Geez. No one has emailed, facebooked. And I am happy just to receive a mail from flickr.com to tell me that my Yahoo pictures have been migrated.
my lovely city
This is Bath, in the most typical tourist spots. The huge building as the video starts is the Bath Abbey. It the moves right and that is the entrance to the Roman Baths, and Pump Room. The lovely music you hear is a busker playing on the xylophone. It really resonates loud and clear and on a sunny day, makes you feel so good.
Not sure if I will have time to go all the places in Bath that I want to. But I'll try.

big button - aka panic!!
it's 22 August 2007, in one month I'll be on my way home! Last month in UK. Lots of mixed feelings... and like my cousin said - repatriation blues. Don't really feel like I want to go back. And yet, there are no plans for me to stay on in the UK.
Where did all that time go? These past 3 months have been incredibly boring. Just stuck in room or in school and work, work, work. No rest for the weary. After the dissertation I have another 8,000 word article to write - oh joy!
Since Sept last year, it's been something new every week - learning new stuff, doing new stuff, meeting new people. And the past three months, it's the same repetitive tasks each day. I cannot take it. And after the joy of working with teams and really getting close to some of my classmates, we're left all on our own.
Countdown, 15 days to end of dissertation and wordcount - 6,500. Starting to vacillate between immense boredom and major panick.
Just spent 3 hours learning pivot tables, what will I do without my cousin?!

why studying is harder than working
I know, not many will believe that studying can actually be harder than working. But now that I've done both, and am the only mad person I know who wanted to study full-time on my own, I believe I have some authority to give my opinion on this subject.
Let me summarise the reasons, though people who actually read my blog would find many of these complaints familiar.
K back to data analysis...wtf?!
Let me summarise the reasons, though people who actually read my blog would find many of these complaints familiar.
- Work - you go in at 8, leave at 6 and don't have to think about it after work or on weekends / Study - you're constantly reading, writing essay, thinking about it 24/7
- Work - you actually get paid while being tortured / Study - depleting lifetime savings and future earnings while being tortured
- Work - 14 days of leave go on holiday, someone can sort of cover your work for you / Study - what leave, go on leave and PAY TRIPLE time when you return.
- Work - do things within your sphere of knowledge / Study - raise your awareness of how ignorant you are and then leave you hanging there thinking, "Oh shit, now what?"
- Work - eat, drink and party on a working professional's income / Study - beans and toast, hope to get treated for drinks and party in your own kitchen.

life back home
These days it has been really hot in my room at nite. Partly cos it's summer and the weather's decided act that part of the season and partly because my quilt is so comfy I tend to snuggle under it when it's cold at night, but gets a tad too warm from my body heat by 6-7am.
So anyway, with the past few days' events - buying tix, going home, thinking of what to pack back etc - I have been dreaming about home, when I'm feeling all hot under me quilt in the early hours. And it must be human nature. Just when I was getting a bit homesick and tired of this country, I take my course of action and prepare to go home, and suddenly realise, I don't want to go home.
Not to hot weather.
No cute, witty, humorous men who know how to make you feel so great about yourself
No more polite people
No COLD weather
And back to a lifetime of slavery for twits
Geez.

friends and lovers
This whole relationship thing. I'm not sure if I'll ever get it.
It's funny that when you're involved in a relationship, you spill your guts out to the other person. He is expected to take a certain amount of crap and moodiness, you know, a watered down version of "till death do us part" as a boyfriend. And yet when you split, you're supposed to keep as far a distance as possible, not talk to him anymore, not share stupid dumb stories that only your best friend will bother listening.
You never say good bye to good friends. You don't just cut them out from your life, it doesn't work like that in the rulebook of friendship.
I've offered some of my friends from class, that if ever they come over to Singapore, to call me and I'll bring them around. But I'm not sure if I would do that with any of my ex-boyfriends - I mean the entertainment bit, not the them coming to Singapore. And I certainly do not stay friends with exs. It's just weird. One minute you're pouring your heart out to a good friend, and the next, you have to keep your distance. Can you be just friends with exs? I know I can't!
I've just booked my one way tix back home and it feels incredibly sad to say goodbye to this life I've had for one year. Things have not exactly been resolved between S and me. It's almost like the same situation when I first met him 2 years ago. We both agreed we haven't given it our best shot and for me to return home first, then we'll try in December, when or if I return for graduation.
Though I can't imagine not talking nonsense to S. His mindless yakking about gym, son and his friends, my moodswings that only he can manage. I don't really know. I hate not knowing.
Not knowing where the relationship is headed after 2 years.
Not knowing if my future is in Singapore or in the UK (likely in Singapore)
Not knowing if I'll ever paid what I think I'm worth when I'm gainfully employed.
Dang

foreign talent
I cannot believe that there are such unbelievably talented people around. (other than me that is.) muahha. No, really. :P
This guy, Phil Hansen is incredible talented (I know, I've used this word like 3 times already) but there's nothing else that can be used to describe him. Have a look.
This one is my favourite of his work.

super food orgasm
Bought Warburton's Fruit loaf with orange from Fresh yesterday. It's so moist and full of yummy fruit flavour... that plus nutella. Do I need to say more? Think nutella is the world's best food invention.

spider pig
You got to give it to Matt Groening for his ideas, after like a million seasons on TV, the Simpsons is still the funniest show, ever!!
Spider pig, Spider pig
Does whatever a spider pig does.
Can he swing from a web?
No he can't, he's a pig.
LOOK OUT! He is a spider pig

hmmmmm donuts.

london, wasps and all things random
Oh, before I carry on with life, let me re-cap some of the stuff I did in lovely ole' London.

Top Left to right: L: Cupcakes, or in this country fairy cakes, both I think sound nice. R: Cajun burger from Gourmet Burger Kitchen, fries sold separately.
Bottom L: Teashop with cupcakes on the window at Portobello Market, R: Fairycakes with shoes! How did I resist?!
Left my window open just about 2 inches and what should come in, but a freaking wasp. It's amazing how these creatures can find their way in, and cannot make their way out. It buzzed and hit all corners of the room, seriously annoying. In the end, I decided to kill it.
This kamikaze bug doesn't know that I come from line of of highly trained pest killers, having acquired my skills at tender age of 4 (which over years I've now perfected it to a karate black belt equivalent). Flies, mosquitoes, beetles, lizards, roaches, ants (I stop at rats, these are more than just pests, they are vile, dirty scums of the earth) once I whip out my slipper, it's the end for these pests.
So anyway I flushed the wasp down my loo. It survived. And started flying all over my bathroom. (Had fleeting image of it stinging my ass when I pee). So took a rolled up poster and started whacking it in midair, machiam like Luke Skywalker battling with his lightsabre. The bug landed temporarily in the bath tub. Mistake. Big mistake. I took the shower hose and washed it down the drain. Muahahahha.
Okay dissertation word count: 80 at the moment. I better buck up and hit a 1000 today! Woohoo! But first to Sainsburys!
- Went Portobello Market
- Went Selfridges and Co. (I have found heaven, didn't fully explore it, but it's way better than Harrod's)
- GBK - Gourmet Burger Kitchen (thanks to me cousin's recommendation. Yum Yum YUM!)
- Carnaby Street (Bought Ben Sherman working shirt for half price - woohoo!)
- Piccadilly Circus (went Japan centre had good jap food but for too much money)
- British Museum

severe delays on the london paddington to bath spa line
What was to be a cheap deal going to and coming home from London has turned out to be be incredibly expensive.
The original deal was £13.00 to London, and £4.50 for a return. The only catch for the £4.50 tix was that I had to travel at 12 noon this afternoon. But my cousin (the one doing LSE summer school) had her exams today and for the first time, didn't have school till 5pm and wanted to just hang around. So I bought another tix for 11.30pm at £9.50.
Thing is, that train arrives in Bath at 1.20am. And from the train station to the main gate of Thornbank, it's another 15-20 minute walk - alone, in the dark. With a heavy bag. So if someone were to rob me, I wouldn't be able to run very far, with my pai kar and big heavy bag.
I asked S yesternite if I should book a tix for the 11.30pm train, his reply was - it's up to me.
So just 2hours ago, I was all showered, packed and ready to put on me shoes to catch the train, then IM-ed S to tell him - I'm off.
Then it suddenly hit S that I was going on a late train and would get back to Bath real late. Think his imagination went wild - was thinking I might be mugged, raped and killed while going on the 11.30pm. And of course, he forbade me to go on the late train. What was sweet was he offered to pick up the cost for train ticket in the morning. Though, I wished he had thought of that earlier - the perils of travelling at nite, not picking up the tab on transport tix.
So it's another £46 for a one-way back to Bath tomorrow and at a decent time of 9.30am. Just as well...my picesean senses were telling me not to go at 11.30 tonite.
Time to zzz, back to my old world tomorrow.

what have you done lately?
Went to the British Museum today. It's fantastic. It boasts of the biggest Egyptian collection of mummies outside of Egypt. And just today I can see why. Never seen so many sarcophagus(es?) in my life. And I saw a dried up uterus of a woman from thousands of years ago - not a good sight.
The British Museum has a very grand foyer area. I think it must have been used for location shoot in some movies, cos it looked really familiar. The cool thing about the place is that they have all these artifacts and they are not in glass cases. Good and bad. The good is that you can go real close up and STARE... or in my case, start taking macro-shots. I was thrilled to see real hieroglyphics. And to think this was done like 2000BC i.e 4000 years ago... it's just amazing. The bad is that people and I hate to say this, but based on my observation, a lot of them happen to be Asian, were touching the artifacts. I mean one touch is fine, but you have a whole load of them touching (and there were shitloads of tourists)... you can imagine the etchings are all slowing being erased.
I took some pictures of Assyrian carvings of a lion hunt. The details are just so fantastic, you can even see the muscles of the dogs on a hunt. (Pix to come when my cousin eventually downloads it from her camera).
Anyway they have this section on Alexander the Great, some student of Aristotle and the guy who unified Greece and sparked off the Hellenistic Age. He started his rule at age 20 and he not only unified Greece, but set off to expand his empire that stretched from Greece, across Europe, towards the east to the borders of India. Can you imagine how fucking big that is?! And at age 20!!! He died in his 50s, but within a short span of 30+ years, done so much.
And what the hell have I done with my life?! Does put things into perspective doesn't it?
Best that I get my ass into gear and start job hunting seriously. Afterall, it's not like I'm conquering the world!

Afterall, it's not like I'm conquering the world!

chewing gum removal solution that works! (not that we need it in Singapore)
While on our way to Bournemouth last week, I sat on chewing gum at a pitt stop. eeeeeek
For once I was glad of the ridiculous policy* that my country's govt made about 15 years back - sale of chewing gum is verboten**.
So there I was with a patch of old chewed up chewing gum stuck to the back of my right leg of my favourite birthday capris from Giordano. S's mom and dad were furiously trying scrape it off. S, of course, just looked.
So anyway, I searched on the internet about "removing sticky chewing gum from clothes" and the solution was: pour washing liquid on the stain, add salt and rub.
Was a little skeptical - washing liquid and salt? I mean honestly who the hell came up with that combination?
So okay, anything is worth a shot at least once right? And hey, it worked, perrrrrrfectly. Chewing gum blob actually came out real easy.
But once again, not that anyone from my Vaterland*** will need to know this trivial piece of information. Cos our smart govt has already thought out everything for us.
*Poll of people in foreign country who agreed about the ban of sale of chewing gum - so far most of the 10-15 pax I've asked were supportive of it.
**verboten = German for forbidden
***Vaterland = German for motherland. Literally translated it is Fatherland.

i feel loved
It's weird, but I have a feeling that I may be heading home sooner than December. You know, Piscean intuition that is so dead accurate that it's a wonder why I haven't won the lottery.
I always thought that I'll dread going home. But I am quite looking forward to it. Enough of cold summers and hot winters. Enough of days with no char bee hoon and luncheon meat, no ex-CCH support group meetings that are usually pig out sessions, no long we-do-absolutely-jack-all hanging out with cousins, no cursing in Hokkien and having another person understand me. And most of all, enough of life without my darlings.
One thing though, S and I haven't had the chat. And it seems weird that everyone else in my life is focused on my post MBA life, asking me the big question "When are you coming back?". And yet S and I haven't talked about it.
I know S and I have a good thing together, but all this avoidance of a chat and stall tactics for an answer makes me more more determined to just go home where I feel wanted and loved.
Most people are planning for my after MBA life back in Singapore - BBQ, drinks sessions, diving, more food and alcohol. Heck, one of my friends even volunteered to chauffeur me from Changi Airport to home. (Which is like a 20 minute ride by cab, and completely unnecessary for her as it is a big detour for her to drive from her home to fetch me... but it's sweet.), and take a few days from work to bum around with me.
It seems really strange that in 2 months, what I know as "my life in the UK" will completely be over. You know another closed chapter in the great big and oh-so-interesting book of my life. What a year. What a fantastic experience and great people I've met. I'm just so glad that I did it.

life of the unemployed
Tomorrow I'm off to my promised Bournemouth trip! And although I've just been promised a holiday for a day, I haven't been able to work all of today... bad, bad, bad.
Then I'm back in Bath for a drinks session on Friday, Saturday morn I head for London to spend the weekend with my cousin. London Eye, here I come!
Monday evening, I hop on the coach and it's a ride back to Bath, rest and presentation on Tuesday to HP management. I hope I get some work done in between all this partying. It's just that I've been all work, no play the past few months, and suddenly promise of fun comes...all at once.
Hahahha... I can so hear it now... "She is there partying and not actually studying!"
but hey... I can and so I am doing it! nay nay ni boo boo!

disciplined by age
I hate to admit it - I am getting old.
You know how it is when you wake at 11am in the mornings and feel that that is an accomplishment altogether?
Well not anymore.
I woke at 9am yesterday when my alarm went off. Jumped out of bed, changed, sorted out me laundry, went to do laundry, made coffee, had breakfast, collected washed laundry and hung it out to dry. All this by 10.30.
And felt a sense of accomplishment doing all that before the day started.
Mistake was, I had expresso in the afternoon and slept 3am last night, and couldn't wake till 2pm this afternoon. Woke up feeling "Where the f**k has my day gone?" Was disoriented and directionless for 2 good hours, before deciding that I will make lunch and apply to a few more jobs.
Not sure if I would have been happy having to decide that I need to do work on my Sunday in my past life. But the truth is out - I am old.

motherfuckers
I seriously hate communal living.
Last nite, for some reason, a bunch of 6 residents from my accommodation decided to do an open air unplugged performance - at 2am.
KNNABCXYZ.
Since when in the history of mankind is that considerate behaviour?
I don't fucking care if you are fucking drunk or your creative juices are just about spilling. It's 2 am. There are about 100 other people who are trying to get some rest to work the next day. Like me. I was counting on getting some sleep, and I even went to bed early at 11 yesterday night so that I can catch a few more minutes of rest - seeing that these days, with S and work I've been emotionally and mentally tired.
But oh no. Motherfuckers started strumming their fucking guitar. Doesn't help that the accoustics in the open air area is fantastic. So I was fucking being sernaded. But I am not pleased.
The other mother fucker is the guy Joe has 3am parties in his room, messes up the kitchen and then fucking doesn't appear in the day so that I can tell him off!
Bloody fuckers. They should all be struck by lightning.

photo time
Went to Strada last nite for a meal with me mates, cos it's Tomo's last week in Bath. He is going to SINGAPORE to do his MBA. Sigh. I wish he could pack me in his luggage and ship me off home.K back to important stuff - the food at Strada. It's gooooooood. Shall bring S there next week. I had the Pollo alla Milanese, it's just chicken breast meat with breadcrumbs, pomodore sauce (tomato lah), roasted veg and butter sauteed beans. Yum. And serving was huge. Antipasti we had pesto e pomodore bread. Just thin crust with a layer of tomato sauce and basil pesto sauce. To die for.
If you click on pix, you can zoom in to see the spaghetti on the table, just between my hair and hand. That's how spaghetti bolognese should look like. Ooodles of noodles, with just about enough sauce to coat it and lots of mince and freshly grated Parmesan. Food orgasm
Got me cous to take pix of B1 and B2 at play at vivocity that day. :) The two are adorable! And B2 is wearing the swimsuit I got for her. Isn't it sweet?

the many taste of coke
Some months back, I did a case study on Coca-cola.In the 80's when its management decided to go head-on competing with Pepsi on the drink's taste (remember the Pepsi Taste Challenge?) and came up with a new flavour of Coke. Many people opposed. Sales plummet. And I suspect in some places, riots.
Anyway, they retracted the new flavour, put the old Coke back on market and called it Coke Classic. And Coke lovers everywhere rejoiced and happily gulped down tons of of that familiar taste.
However, since then, Coke has sneakily put other flavours onto the market. 1982 - Diet Coke, 1986 - Diet Cherry Coke, 2001 - Diet Coke with Lemon. There's even a caffeine-free version of Coke, why?! That's like taking panadol without paracetamol in it!
And now there's Diet Coke Plus - with added vitamins and minerals. Since when was Coke known for it's health and therapeutic properties? oooo I wanna get healthy, start exercising and drinking Coke Plus. Doesn't sound quite right to me. I mean it's a soft drink, it's unhealthy and I accept that. I take full responsibility when I decide to "poison" my system with stuff that supposedly can clean toilet bowls and old coins. Just don't try to make sound more healthy than it is. That's kinda pushing it a bit too far.
I wonder how sales for those are doing.
Coca-Cola trivia: did you know that the present day Santa who is clad in his jolly red and white suit is a result of a super effective marketing campaign from Coca-cola? Though some may dispute that Santa was depicted in red & white before Coca-Cola's famous version. But I believe that perhaps only Coke co. has the power and influence in the past to popularise the jolly old Santa in his red and white suit, and is how we imagine Santa to look like today.

cupcakes
I am back to my cupcakes obsession. Not that I was ever off it. Why suddenly cupcakes? I got sidetracked while reading a friend's blog that had a link to baking and that, of course, led to all things cupcakes. Might have been sparked off from my recent diet craze. My last major diet I was baking non-stop. Think psychologically was trying to fatten all those around me.I can't explain my fascination for them; granted they are just glorified butter cake in small paper cups. But there's always something sweet and even with simple one color frosting, it looks absolutely to die for.
So am proclaiming in this post, this is one woman's quest to track down pictures and websites that feature cupcakes!
I quite like the look of the cupcakes from C-Cup, which looks yummilicious and I suppose business is booming, cos they are not taking orders till 14 July.
Found some more - Couture Cupcakes anyone?
And of course, who can forget Martha Stewart's range of cupcakes are just such a thrill to look at. I wonder what they taste like?

angels
I called my darlings today. B1 had just woken up from his afternoon nap. And B2 was busy munching on food. I called because I bought a pair of sunglasses, spider-men 3 sunglasses no less, for my darling B1, while Sue May was here, and didn't get anything for B2. And Sue May was going over to my mom's to hand the gifts over to the rascals. I called my mom to make sure that she had bought something for B2, so she wouldn't feel jealous or left out. But as usual, since B2 was furiously shaking her hand in response to the "Do you want to speak to Yee Yee" question, I ended up talking to my other angel - B1.
"Hi Yee" B1 said when he picked up the phone.
"Hi my sweet, how are you?"
... a bit of silence
"What did you say Yee?" B1 asked.
"I asked how you were."
"Yee yee, can I ask mama something first?"
"Yup sure, go on then."
(In the background) "Mama can I watch 05 please?"
"Sweetheart, do you want to watch TV or talk to me?" I asked B1, knowing that TV is a big thing for 4 year olds.
"No, I'll watch TV after I've finished talking to you." B1 said in his usual sweet, heart melting and super honeyed reply.
Sigh. It is true, I will give up my entire life for that little boy.
On another note, I am still waiting for British Summer to begin. It's been raining in the UK the past 3 weeks. And in a country that rains as much and as often as the UK, even the Brits are saying this is extraordinarily bad weather. I mean just look at the floods in York.
I've only seen the sun for a total of 30 minutes in the past 3 weeks. As much as I like rainy weather, this is a bit too much, and it's inconvenient when I do want to go out! But the weather looks promising tomorrow - sunshine and clouds with quite a bit of wind, temperate at 19 deg Celsius. And over the weekend it goes up to 23 deg. Let's hope it stays that way.

visitors
My cousin in Singapore just told me that she is going to LSE summer school for a month, and will be in London on 17 July. I am sooooooooo excited at the prospect of seeing another family member here on foreign soils.
It'll be good. It's already 2 July and before you know it, it'll be August and September and when the rascals are here! Yeeeeeaaaaahhhhh!
So I've got a whole string of visitors lined up for the next few months. Cousin in July - August, Sally in August, rascals in September. Can life be anymore wonderful? hmm yes, a full bank account would be even better.
It's just scary shit, just over the weekend 3 people asked me within like a period of a day - "Are you coming back?" me mom included. To be honest, I don't know what my plans are at the moment. I would love to work here for a few years, it'll be a great experience, not to mention it would appear damn tokgong on my CV.
Be facilitating a session for 15 year olds for HP on Wednesday, it'll be fun. Scary shit but fun, when was the last time you spoke to a 15 year old? It's a completely different generation I believe! Geez, I am old enough to be their mom for crying out loud.
'Nuff said. I think I shall shower, and remove all thoughts of ageism right-about-NOW!
*Poof*

days of butt ache ahead
It's come to a point, (had this same revelation about 9 years back) that I hate the sight of current self - ie. all lardy. Just fed up with comments made by other people about me as well.
So in view of many butt-ache, muscle-ache,and many a rumbly tummy days ahead, I am declaring that I am going on diet extreme. hmmm well not exactly extreme, cos that was the diet I went on years back. This diet extreme part II is tailored for the active woman who needs to tone up and feel good.
Maybe a better sense of self worth at that too.
So over the next 2-3 months, it'll be a tough battle between lazy self and "I can't take this anymore" self and get my ass in gear to doing something about it.

i am singaporean, therefore i eat

I'm sure this list will grow. Just can't think of anymore. I mean I am easy to please just beans on toast* will make me a happy girl, so I cannot understand how things like Bak Kut Teh is even FOOD!
*Beans on toasts - thought I invented it as a kid, till I realised it has been around - daaaaammmmmnnnn you fish n chips nation!

It's the best £27 I've ever spent in the last 10 months - me new Logitech Premium Notebook Headset
Just 3 weeks back I was on MSN with ah bons telling her I was tempted to order the headset, but at £34.99 it was kinda steep (this was off Logitech's website price). But I ordered it anyway. Good thing it was rejected the first time round, some credit card verfication that didn't permit my order to go through. Was a sign, I saved like £10 when I ordered it though Amazon.co.uk.
"Eh, then next time I want burger call you lor." That was Bons' first statement to me.
"Simi burger lah?" I asked.
"Machiam like those take orders one for drive through at Burger King lor."
"Hmmmm that's a thought."

Top pix: Me with live demo - Uncle, you want ketchup or chilli sauce?
Anyway, I was so happy it came, and as usual excessive packaging in a HUGE box. I really hate stuff which are packaged the way it is shown in picture below. So damn hard to open. I mean, when I buy a new gadget I am dying to try it out. I do not want to fight with plastic packaging for 20 minutes only to be all hot and bothered to try the product out.

So first order of the day - call my darling rascals.
B1 was going on and on about his birthday. My mom was saying B1 is so excited and keeps telling her that I was going to get him the transformers optimus prime voice changer helmet.
Oh yeeeeaaah, trust the little rascal to remember that.
Apparently he is planning for his birthday, which will happen only 2 months down the road.
"Then we'll have a piñata (he said it with perfect spanish pronounciation too) and there will be a lot of sweets in there, and we'll need 2 sticks to beat it. The person who can hit it down will win the the BEST prize of all - the Optimus Prime helmet. What do you think Yee yee? Is it cool?"
"I think it's a fantastic and cool idea for a party."
"Then I am the organiser, but I can play in the games too."
"Can the organiser win a prize?"
"Yah, if I hit the piñata, I will get the best prize, and since you are getting the Optimus Prime Helmet, you will be getting the prize for me."
"That is really exciting sweetheart"
This went on for a bit, till my mom decided 10 minutes of party organisation and Spider-man talk was a bit too much for an IDD call. Then I asked for B2, who surprisingly, wanted to talk to me.
"They have this in UK too!" said B2.
They have Baby Alive? What does Baby Alive do?"
Some muffled conversation about feeding the baby and then...
"Bye yee yee." in her sweetest little voice.
Now job for the weekend - hunt for the Optimus Prime helmet and Baby Alive (or imitation) for the rascals.
