growing old

Back back

Slowing metabolism

Creaky knees*

Aches and pains

Growing old really isn't much fun. Didn't use to take so long to recover from things like: exercise, cramps... or even remembering things. These days I feel like a sloth, and have been certified by my doc as obese!!! I thank my polycystic ovary syndrome.

I'm turning 40 in two years. OMG. I don't feel that old, and yet I will be. 1/2 my life has gone by.

I heard on radio, this lady who wrote a book about getting old - how the body does but the mind doesn't. I have a feeling when I am 80, I'll feel this way too. These days thoughts of aethism has kinda set in. When I was younger, my dad would force me to go pray at temples. And of course when you grew older, parents can't force you to do something you didn't want to. Or believed in. And it didn't help that I was in a Methodist school. I even believed in God for a while *shudder*. These days I think I can believe that there is no god. Not a Christian one, nor a buddhist one. Or any other kind for that matter.

We are a outcome of colliding atoms, particles and masses. I believe that there is no afterlife... Which brings me back to my point of this post - mortality. I have only this one chance to make good how should i spend it? Enslaved in a job I absolutely resent. A job that takes away time from me and my family?

Time to reallynthink hard

Sibling gender

Was talking to B1 yesterday

Me:"Hey if mommy had another baby, would you want a younger baby girl or boy?"

B1:"Of course a boy. Then he'll be able to understand me and know what I'm doing."

Me:"What if you had an older sibling? Girl or boy?"

B1,"errr boy...no, girl... Then she can take care of me."

Laughed my guts out on that one.

Now the two lovelies are into Bleach. Even the little girl hahaha and I even got my sister to watch it. Funny cos I started watching Bleach while in Bath and when I came home and thought James might like he, he didn't. Then he was like five, so I guess it's too much to ask a five year old to like anime like Bleach. Now the two are crazy about it and in fact, as kids are, they memorise EVERYTHING. So it's been nonstop bleach conversations the past few weekends. Scary

Friday call from Bear's house

Got a call at 8.26pm today. Was B1 calling

B1: "Yee Yee, what time are you coming to my house?"

(already feeling guilty that I haven't spent time with the rascals this week with mental note that thoughts of sleeping in tomorrow should now be completely banished )

Me: "will go to your place tomorrow sweetheart. I've garrett popcorn and bleach video episodes 1-10. Do you want Macdonald's breakfast?"

B1: "Yes Yee. Just hash browns, no hotcakes."

Me: "Okay, see you at 9 tomorrow."

B1:"okay Yee. See you tomorrow."

before I hung up heard B1 say,"yah Yee Yee said she will get one for you too."

Sucker aunt that I am, at least they still miss me when I don't go over. Nt long from now they wouldn't even bother.

Super love the rascals

Thanks Steve

Steve Jobs passed away at the age of 56 today. He single handedly transformed the way we used technology today. Just look at where im blogging today - on an iPad. And chatting to my frens on the iPhone. Internet in my hands. Changing the way I access information, find out things about the world and how we live our lives

There will probably not be such a visionary in a long time to come. Thanks Steve.

Eggs+flour+butter= kaching?

Well. Ive been with my current company for about a year now. And I'm starting to feel restless. Bored. Not passionate about the job.

These days been thinking about what if I start my own business? Can I make it work? I've always thought - I need a better oven and mixer etc - basically procrastinating about doing anything. Maybe I should start thinking
about it. Hmmm

toxic people

I think I've had about enough. Of complainers and whiners. Just about a couple of months ago, this lady joined my company and to her horror of horrors, her boss is just a big C. And she has been complaining about her boss everyday since I've been in office with her.

Yesterday when we went for coffee, she'd said: "Enough, I can't be complaining about her all the time." and in like 30 seconds went back to complaining about her boss. I think shall not go out dinner with her cos it's just listening to her whine and bitch. I can only take that much of bitching. I can understand how it feels to have a cunt for a boss, but I cannot possibly be listening to you complain at every possible break I get. Funny thing is, she said that she knows there are other things in life that are priority and this is just a job. So why so much complains, Ms? Absolutely tiring. And when I share with her some of my complains (since we are in a bitching sessions when I'm out with her 1-1) she quickly sweeps it under and goes back to her problems. So I end up just listening to her bitch n whine for 2-3 hours.

Another toxic person to be around is a friend who seems to be able to find something to complain about at work, no matter which organization she goes to. Granted there are always difficulties at work, but she is always complaining about someone, that someone is taking advantage of her helpfulness or some lazy person at work and how unhelpful this person is, or how unfair her boss is...it eats them alive, and it's starting to eat me alive too.

Are we a generation of complainers? These people don't realize that they are complaining ALL THE TIME. It's fine to occasionally want to let off some steam, but every time we meet, it's you complaining about work, about your colleagues and pardon me, it's people I don't know so I just can't keep up with the names, places and incidences. And to be honest with the small RAM capacity that I have, I'm not sure that I do wanna remember.

Solution is: to avoid these people on a 1-1 situation. I've my own share of complains too, and yes I do bitch about it, but I'm also learning to stop and trying not to inflict my friends with my whinging. Get a life, move on, do something that makes you happy and stop complaining.

Irony of this all is that this blog is a complain about complainers ha ha ha

11 deg C

It's freaking cold. I'd forgotten what British summer would be like and had underpacked. All I brought were shorts, sleeveless tees and not enough jackets!

Note to self, next trip to the UK I must pack:
- Raincoat
- waterproof shoes
- socks
- more jackets!
- warm shirts with sleeves!

It'd rain all day. Heavy rain by UK standards and the wind!!!! Oh shit. So cold. Am layering everything I've got to keep warm. Summer?

Oslo Lufthavn

Just got to Oslo at the airport that Annie had asked me to fly to - Gardermoen. I've been travelling for 21 hours now. Feeling like I might just crash any moment.

The air view coming in was quite something. There were a number of small Marinas along the tiny islands and toward inland there were lots of tall coniferous trees. The air is so crisp, oh to have a maximum temp of 23 deg or something. Something only we can dream of. ;)

The houses all have that pointy roof, like what kids would draw of the houses and amidst rolling fields. Typical of the Scandinavian type architecture People here should count themselves ever so lucky.

Not many Asian faces around so that's kinda nice for a change. But who knows, will see loads if Chinese nationals in central Oslo?

But you can't have it

I remember when I was in Bath and how I didn't want to go back to Singapore. And because I had no choice, I had no job and low on money, I had to.

And suddenly with crazy busy jobs, I'd lost that eager yearning and hunger to work and live abroad.

"Staying in Singapore could be good," I tell myself that now. But just two days into Europe, all that has changed. I feel that painful urge and longing to be in the UK. Again.

Just the entire weather, culture, people, architecture and way of life that makes me feel "I so wanna be here!!"

Just walking through some forested path in Oslo today and I was just envious and upset that I can't ever be in a place like that. I mean there are people who marry up, be housewives and stay home in places in the UK. Why can't I achieve that? A sense of failure kinda set in. I can't even get someone to like me enough to wanna be with me for a more than two years, what hope did I have to get someone who will take care and love me for the rest of my life? Is my life destined to be one that's always so busy, strapped broke and single? Yeah of cos this on the fact that I wouldn't be able to
achieve anything on my own.

With me getting old so fast, it seems so. And I just don't know what I will do in future when I've no more rascals when they grow
up, or my parents? Friends will find their partners. I'll just be in Singapore, working crazy 60 hrs a week and forgotten a dream that I long so much once.

Back after 4 years

On board BA for a long haul flight back to the UK. It's been four years too long. And strangely I feel a bit too asianified cos feeling a bit strange to see Angmo stewardesses. Hahaha. Been a manic week and the reality that I'm off for a two week holiday hasn't quite sunk in. Going to LHR and transit to Oslo to see Annie. I've missed her! It'll be great fun. Will attempt to document my trip as much as possible.

Now in a really spacious row on plane. Am happy.

7 months of no new posts...

Have I been THAT busy? Well obviously I am, I'm famous now. :)

Or you can read the article here

Just another prime example of unreasonable quasi-govt organisation thinking they can get away with hell. Thankfully the courts have some sense of justice and are fair. :)

Want the ball ball or not?

What's with Singaporean parents? They keep this baby talk to kids who are as old as 3! Come on, they are kids who have a perfectly sound mind. No wonder Singaporeans grow up 1/2 spastic. Geez

PPK

Haven't had this since I was 7 or 8. My granddad used this as his flu med. Tastes more like yummy syrup than med. And I remembered stealing spoonfuls of it when he wasn't looking. The clinch to this was the bottle had an impossible plastic cap that was impossible for little hands to open.

Just last week I felt like I was falling ill and my friend at work offered it to me. The taste just brought back so much memories. Amazing. After 30 years you can still have so much reflection on just one taste. ;)

weddings...

The topic of marriage and weddings has been popping up recently. And strangely enough it's my wedding people seem to be planning for.  Completely berserk, since I'm wildly single, not dating, haven't dating in eons, and not likely to seeing the specimen of men on this island.

And anyway, case 1:

At dinner with rascals, B2 asked,"Yee, when you get married, then Rayshan and I can be your flower girls."

I almost choked on my Macdonald's fries.

"Err okay, but it might be a long wait," I replied.

"Do you have a boyfriend?" B2 continued, ever hopeful that her probing questions might end her a spot as flower girl in my dream (literally, dream) wedding.

"Nope," I said. Wondering how do I get interrogated by a 5 year-old with questions like that.

"Why don't you introduce some nice young men to Yee?" said B2's dad.

Thoughts of me walking down the aisle with a 5-year-old ran through my head. Eeeew. that is wrong.

Case 2:

While being bridal gown consultant to my girlfriend who is actually getting married, she saw this cheongsam laced top gown with an A-line bottom.

"Trish, you should wear this at your wedding, it would suit you!" squealed O with excitement.

"Hmm sure, but let's focus here on YOUR wedding gown, seeing that you're the one getting married soon?"

...10 minutes later, while discussing flowers.

"What about pastel colours?" asked my friend on her suggested choice of bridal bouquet.

"No, that wouldn't suit you, a stronger colour would be better," replied the bridal gown designer.

"Yeah, pastel would suit Tricia better," said O, turning to look at me.

"FOCUS people, FOCUS!" I exclaimed, with eyes rolling.

xxx

I mean of course we all dream of weddings, I used to spend hours thinking about how my gown would be and all details that are now to me a blur. But now I realised that I like weddings for a different reason -- I can put together one. I love planning and organising bridal events, even with my limited experience, it does give me great joy to do stuff like that.

The suggestions on gowns, hair and makeup, bridal bouquets, venues, shoes, cakes, wedding gifts, table settings, flowers and colours... oooo excitement. Of course please don't be misled by my excitement. I don't quite believe in the sanctity of marriage, I am just excited by the thought of what money can buy you for that one day where dreams come true.

And because I'll never have one. Let me indulge on all the flowery, pretty stuff I like at weddings.

tv mobile

I haven't moved my car since yesterday, and all because I have an excellent lot which I just simply refuse to let go. Not even when I had to visit my friend in the evening. So I took a bus, and then walked back home.

But going on that one ride of 5 minutes, I so dread the day when I have to take public transport again. TV mobile is one. Who the hell thinks it's a good idea to have loud music blaring at you while you TRY TO TAKE A NAP ON THE BUS? wtf?

wonders...

Just got off the phone with a long-time good buddy, who is doing some real estate business now. We ended the conversation bitching and moaning about how filthy rich Singaporeans are. And I wonder..."how do people get there?"

How do people make that quantum leap to own 2-3 properties before they hit 40? Friends you grew up with, some friends who are housewives, never have to work and slog as hard as you do, now cash rich and have 1-2 properties under their names.

And of course, because the universe should revolve around me, I wonder what went wrong with my life? Well, technically nothing is wrong. I have a decent, comfortable life doing what I do, enjoying every moment now then I did when I was in my 20s, there's always that nagging but.

But will I ever have that financial epiphany and make that break to be comfortably wealthy; where I can spend $108 on a cute salt and pepper shaker + magnetic toothpick holder and not bat an eyelid? I told my gf about it and both of us were just astounded and wondered in amazement if anyone would buy it. And of course they would. The rich wouldn't even think twice buying something like that. Filling their house with lovely items that cost a bomb, things that I crave for but would never plonk good money for it.

And so in wonderment I sought the enlightenment of fortune tellers, and half believed the (lies/truth) they tell me.

"You will be rich when you are 36." (hello, which part of me is NOT 36? Bank account is still empty)
"The opportunity for you to grow wealthy is coming. I can see it on your face." (Would that be the spot of running mascara below my eye that is telling you that?

And when pressed on for more lucid soothsaying predictions, they laugh it off.

"Oh bollocks to fortune tellers, you believe in that garbage?" To which my answer is, if it makes you feel better, why not? Religion does that for many.

But I digress.

I've always thought I will achieve great things. You know, become CMO, boss people around, and live in a life of luxury in a chateau some nice exotic foreign land . And ever so often, I still get that feeling that I will achieve something great, somehow dreams that that feel seem more real when you were younger.

tick tock

Recent months I've started becoming restless. Again.

Restless and resigned, about the same thing - how monotonous my life has become. The humdrum of my daily life -  is this all there is to it?

I want something in life, something exciting to happen. What happened to the love for life? The passion and interests? The excitement I felt when I got up each day while I was in the UK, anxious to start my day.

Friends with their own families have what they own - a family, kids, things that they can do with them. What do I do? Sometimes I feel beaten. It seems that no matter how hard I try, I come back full circle to this point in life. Where nothing happens.

Am not complaining, not complaining... just need to let it out. on my blog.

Carpe Diem and all that shit? hmmm not too sure. Achievement-o-meter is weighing a little on the low end today. :) Kopf hoch.
